  2. I just checked all the comments to this article on Reddit. I’m the first person here to mention what’s so apparent to me: Did Putin order this?

    What’s the motive?

It could set up a situation such as in the film *Red Dawn*. It seems like science fiction, but if Russia ever wanted to go to war with the U.S., they’ll never have a better opportunity.

  3. I am far more concerned that Putin had a direct influence on Trump’s decision regarding Syria than the shutdown.

Let’s not forget that Trump had a 1:1 meeting with Putin at the G20 conference just a few weeks before making this decision. And Trump’s withdrawl decision was exactly what Putin wanted.

Trump made the decision and that led Mattis and several other senior defense officials to resign in protest.

But look at what happened after all that… the military basically intervened and now tue pull-out has been delayed and staggered (Trump initially called for full and immediate withdrawl).

I read this action as the military basically refusing to follow orders made by the Commander-In-Chief. What will he interesting to learn in the coming years is how much this defense department pushback hinged on concerns that Trump actually is a Russian agent.

It’s entirely possible that top level military and intelligence officials who run day-to-day operations already know Trump is compromised and have put safeguards in place to avoid and delay orders Trump makes which they feel are against US national interests.
