I was surprised to read this piece in the London Review of Books from last year dismissing the basic idea that Russia had interfered in the 2016 US election.
Lears wrote a followup a couple months later: https://www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2018/february/russiagate-revisited
They’re both astonishingly dishonest and distorted. He makes unsupported assumptions while ignoring basic facts.
I was surprised because I found the article through the Twitter feed of Daniel Dennett, a philosopher for whom I have a lot of respect. He wrote: “This is required reading. Very unsettling, worth exploring further.”
I could go through both articles point-by-point (for example, there’s strong evidence for Russian attacks on both American and European elections), but I’m curious whether this has already been done. Anybody?
